Ann Marie Ferreira's Online Painting Gallery

Artist's Statement:

The motivation for my work has its basis in love of the act of painting itself.
It relates to many precepts of Abstract Expressionism such as unpremeditated
self-discovery and intuitive experimentation.

My oversized collages come from old calendars, seed catalogues, flower bulb packages,
magazine advertisements and food boxes. I see them as whimsical time capsules;
luminous images that have roots in personal experience.

I often use lyrics from country western songs as inspiration for the collages.
An example of this can be seen in the piece Jesus and Mama: "Jesus and Mama always loved me; even when the devil took control."
